Holy Smokes! Robert Pattinson is officially the new Batman for Warner Bros’ trilogy to be directed by Matt Reeves

The hunt for the new Batman is officially over as reportedly Warner Bros. has closed a deal with Robert Pattinson to be the new caped crusader. The actor who received global popularity by playing Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and Edward Cullen in the Twilight series will take on the cowl and the cape from Ben Affleck. The new Batman trilogy will be directed by Matt Reeves and the first film is scheduled to hit theatres on June 25, 2021. Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult were in contention for the role of DC comics’ most famous superhero.

A leading entertainment website reported that the studio confirmed the deal with Pattinson on Friday and a formal announcement will be made soon. The pre-production on the film is expected to start this summer. The film is produced by Dylan Clark who produced Reeves’ Planet of the Apes films. Apparently, Reeves’ film tracks Bruce Wayne’s formative years as Batman and hence the studio wanted an actor in his early 30s.

Affleck played Batman in the last two films directed by Zack Snyder, 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League. The films received mixed reviews and were disappointments for the production house. Previous to Affleck, Christian Bale starred in a trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan that are perhaps the best made and most popular Batman films of all times.

Besides Batman, Pattinson will also star in Nolan’s upcoming film Tenet that also stars Dimple Kapadia.
