Meghan Markle breaks royal protocol by wearing black nail polish, Twitterati hail rebel queen

The current crop of British royals is a breath of fresh air as they seem more approachable, compassionate and don’t stick to protocol always. Meghan Markle, the latest to join the Royal Family has broken a lot of rules and stereotypes by marrying the younger prince at a royal wedding this year. The former actress was a divorcee, is a child from a broken family and that too has a mixed parentage. She is also a few years older to her husband Prince Harry.

She is a breath of fresh air, not only she is a women’s rights advocate but is effectively bring the royal family into the 21st century by doing away with some of the rigid and unnecessary protocols that the family used to adhere to. Meghan made an appearance at the British Fashion Awards recently. She looked lovely in a black velvet gown, minimal makeup and minimal jewelry but what caught our attention and caused a bit of a stir on social media because her nail polish that was black broke with royal tradition.

The photos from the event showed Meghan opting for a black or rouge noir shade of nail polish to match her one-shoulder black gown. The Duchess of Sussex is pregnant with her first child but still managed to make an appearance at the British Fashion Awards to present the British Designer of the Year, Womenswear award to Clare Waight Keller, artistic director for Givenchy and the woman behind her royal wedding dress.

Reportedly, the black nail polish is a “rare choice” for members of the royal family. The Queen prefers Essie's Ballet Slippers. She has been using it since 1989 when the royal hairdresser declared it "the only colour Her Majesty would wear." Meghan’s choice of nail colour received a lot of applause from Twitterati with fans hailing her as a “gorgeous rebel”.
