A nice thing about LFW is that day one starts with the Gen Next show, featuring young designers handpicked by a distinguished jury. This 29th edition of Gen Next features AKHL by Akhil Nagpal with a collection inspired by dramatic tensile structures, ALL2DEFY by Ananya Modi Jain with a convergence of style, form and function, C H A N D R I M A by Chandrima Agnihotri with a collection celebrating diversity in craft forms by blending techniques and fabrics prominent in nomadic communities in India, GRAINE by Mannat Sethi and Harshna Kandhari with a collection drawing inspiration from an age-old tradition in Indian sweets.

Watch out for day two of LFW, the sustainable fashion day. It starts off with the second edition of India’s largest sustainable fashion award, Circular Design Challenge (CDC), a platform for young fashion/accessory entrepreneurs to showcase their innovative ideas and collections made by using materials from diverse sources of waste. Five finalists will showcase their stuff with the winner receiving Rs. 20 lakh. Also, PETA India will present a special award for Best Innovation in Vegan Fashion to an enterprise discovered during CDC 2020.

The day includes shows by many other designers with the finale by Ritu Kumar who collaborates with Lenzing from Austria for a special showcase with sustainable viscose fibre Ecovero. The collection called Nature’s Origami is engendered on the central theme of tribal and contemporary Indian art forms which allude to nature and rejuvenation.

The LFW grand finale will see futuristic designer Amit Aggarwal bring to life BetterIn3D inspired by Lakmé newest 3D range and theme. This is all about bringing out the new dimension in you which is synonymous with Amit’s design sensibilities and ethos.

The collection is said to be an embodiment of his signature style of futuristic biomimicry that encourages one to think beyond the present. The designs will be symbolic of the modern woman who is strong yet gentle. Razor-sharp constructions will meet intricate patterns using unusual polymers woven into a fabric to create 3D forms through embroidery.

Actually, the LFW action starts today, February 11, with an ‘opening show’ that pays tribute to Gen Next designers over the years. Thirty Gen Next designers who kick-started their fashion career though the coveted designer discovery programme will present modernized representation of an iconic look from their debut collection.

Yes, the fashion passion begins!
