It, indeed, is a celebratory moment for Sabyasachi Mukherjee as the designer, in an Instagram post on Monday, revealed that he had the “good fortune” to dress Oprah Winfrey in one of his creations. Winfrey wore a custom-made black saree with an embellished border by Sabyasachi to a dinner hosted by the royal family in Jaipur during her maiden trip to India.
Winfrey accessorized her ensemble with Zambian emerald and diamond earrings from Sabyasachi’s heritage jewellery collection as she also appeared in this look on the fashion magazine Elle India December 2018 cover as well.

In the note that accompanied a picture of Winfrey on the cover, Sabyasachi added that during his conversation with the talk show host, he had mentioned about his store in Mumbai and was in for a big surprise when she actually ended up visiting him at his Kala Ghoda boutique.
“The opening of my store in Kale Ghoda came up in conversation and Oprah promised to swing by in the morning she got time off from her busy schedule. I thought she was being polite! Imagine my gleeful surprise (and slight horror) when I realised I was sprawled on the floor like an exhausted starfish after completing the setup of the store, just as Oprah came breezing in, exactly at 10 AM. She was as magnanimous about it as I was mortified,” Sabyasachi wrote in his post.

Sabyasachi is an accomplished designer and has dressed several celebrities including Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma.
Oprah Winfrey is best known for her talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show, and also appeared in the films The Color Purple, Beloved and The Butler.
