Peeping Moon Exclusive : ‘Shaitaan’ director Vikas Bahl signs Alizeh Agnihotri and Raghav Juyal for comedy drama adaptation

Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Queen 2’ will have to wait a little longer, as director Vikas Bahl has shifted his focus to a different project. The ‘Super 30’ and ‘Shaitaan’ director is next making an Indian adaptation of the acclaimed 2014 French-Belgian film, ‘La Famille Bélier,’ with Salman Khan’s niece Alizeh Agnihotri and ‘The Bad*** of Bollywood’ star Raghav Juyal starring in the lead roles.
PeepingMoon.com has learned that Reliance Entertainment is finally going ahead with this slice-of-life comedy drama after bagging its adaptation rights nearly 7-8 years ago. The film centers on the only hearing member of a deaf family, who juggles supporting her family's struggling business while pursuing her dream of becoming a singer. Alizeh, who made her Bollywood debut in 2023 with ‘Farrey’— a remake of the 2007 Thai film ‘Bad Genius’—will play the hearing daughter, while the character details of Raghav are kept under wraps.

‘La Famille Bélier’ is the same film that was later remade in Hollywood as ‘CODA,’ which went on to win three Oscar Awards in 2022, including Best Picture. Interestingly, the theme of ‘La Famille Bélier’ bears resemblance to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 1996 debut film, ‘Khamoshi: The Musical,’ starring Salman Khan, Manisha Koirala, and Nana Patekar. Vikas Bahl, who has been developing the script for the last two years, is expected to offer a fresh retelling of this emotional premise with his adaptation.

Shooting is slated to begin towards the end of this year, with completion targeted for the first quarter of 2026. Following this, Vikas Bahl is expected to shift his attention to Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shaitaan 2,’ followed by ‘Queen 2.’ Meanwhile, his next directorial, ‘Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling,’ starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Wamiqa Gabbi, is slated to release early in 2026..
