SS Rajamouli is believed to have arrived at a title for his global action adventure starring Mahesh Babu. He's not retaining the placeholder ‘SSMB29’ for this project — a practice he followed with his last action blockbuster ‘RRR’ which began as a tentative name using the initials of Rajamouli, Ram Charan, and Jr. NTR became its official title due to its widespread popularity.
Sources say Rajamouli's film has reportedly been titled ‘Gen 63.’ A name derived from the character of Mahesh Babu, who plays a man from the 63rd generation of a revered lineage, embarking on a mythical quest for rare and powerful artifacts. The film is deeply rooted in the Ramayana and is infused with science fiction elements and unfolds in the ancient and spiritually resonant city of Kashi, revered for its historical and cultural significance.
Rajamouli, the James Cameron of India (as he is popularly known), is crafting a world that blends breathtaking visuals celebrating India’s rich cultural history with a fusion of mythology and futuristic storytelling. Mahesh Babu will sport multiple looks that reflect his character’s evolution while Priyanka Chopra is said to be playing an intrepid explorer. Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran plays a formidable high-tech antagonist. The film also boasts an ensemble cast drawn from various Indian film industries.
Rajamouli and crew will travel to Tanzania on August 15 for an extensive, month-long schedule dedicated to large-scale action and jungle sequences. Initially, the team had planned to film in Kenya in mid-July, but civil unrest in the region forced a change in plans. A subsequent exploration of South Africa as an alternative location was abandoned after logistical challenges arose. Tanzania emerged as the ideal setting as its ancient landscapes align with Rajamouli’s vision of a world that feels timeless and otherworldly. Filming is expected to wrap by mid-2026, targeting a worldwide theatrical release for ‘Gen 63’ in the summer of 2027.
