Over the course of his three-and-a-half-decade-long career, Akshay Kumar has explored nearly every cinematic genre, firmly establishing himself as one of Bollywood’s most versatile and enduring superstars. From action-packed blockbusters and lighthearted comedies to gripping thrillers, courtroom dramas, historical epics, and numerous patriotic films, he has done it all. Yet, one genre that has notably remained absent from his expansive filmography is pure horror.
While Akshay has dabbled in horror-comedy with films like ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ (2007), ‘Laxmii’ (2020), and the upcoming ‘Bhoot Bangla’, he has never headlined a traditional horror film. That is now set to change, as PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that Akshay is discussing a folklore-based horror project with ‘War’ and ‘Pathaan’ director Siddharth Anand. Sources say it will center on a father-daughter relationship and is being developed as a large-scale, VFX-heavy horror drama aimed at delivering a theatrical experience unlike most mainstream Indian horror films. A debutant filmmaker will direct it, while Siddharth will produce it under his Marflix banner.
Akshay and Siddharth have been discussing potential collaborations since last year and were initially in talks for a vigilante action drama, set to be directed by Milan Luthria. When that project didn't materialize, Siddharth approached Akshay with this horror film. “This project went to him 3-4 months ago. He has heard the narration and reportedly loved it. Although Akshay hasn’t signed the film yet, as it’s still in the final stage of scripting, he has shown strong interest,” an industry source told us.
The yet-untitled film is expected to go on floors early next year — after Akshay completes ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and Priyadarshan's ‘Oppum’ remake with Saif Ali Khan, scheduled to begin production in August. He's also discussing ‘OMG 3’ with Amit Rai and an out-and-out ensemble comedy with a director he has collaborated with multiple times. On the release front, Akshay’s ‘Housefull 5’ is set to hit cinemas tomorrow. The Sajid Nadiadwala production is poised for a bumper opening at the box office, marking yet another success for its leading star following ‘Kesari Chapter 2.’ This will be followed by ‘Jolly LLB 3’ on September 19 and then Priyadarshan's horror-comedy, ‘Bhoot Bangla,’ on April 2, 2026. ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ is also slated for a 2026 release.
