PeepingMoon Exclusive: Rajkummar Rao is turning producer; Sets up a Netflix film with Sonakshi Sinha

Fourteen years and over 35 movies later, Rajkummar Rao is set to explore a new aspect of the movie business. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that the National Award-winning actor, who's currently riding high on the box office success of Srikanth, is now turning producer, expanding his repertoire in the Bollywood industry.

Rajkummar will kick off his production journey with a Netflix film titled Toaster. In addition to producing it, he will also star in the lead role along with Sonakshi Sinha, who was most recently seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's high-profile Netflix series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Although the details of the project, including the director, are currently under wraps, it's believed to be a crime comedy that will go on floors in the second half of this year. Archana Puran Singh will also play a pivotal role.

The project marks Rajkummar’s fourth collaboration with the streaming giant, following Ramin Bahrani’s The White Tiger, Vasan Bala’s Monica, O My Darling!, and last year's Raj & DK series, Guns & Gulaabs. Prior to this, his Anurag Basu film, Ludo, also premiered directly on Netflix. The Newton actor will apparently shoot for Toaster after finishing Karan Sharma’s Bhul Chuk Maaf with Wamiqa Gabbi, and a thriller produced by Jay Shewakrami. The former is already filming in Varanasi, while the latter is scheduled to get off the ground in July.

Currently being seen in theatres as the visually impaired industrialist, Srikanth Bolla, in Tushar Hiranandini's Srikanth, Rajkummar has three more movies lined up this year. His next release is Dharma Productions’ Mr. and Mrs. Mahi with Janhvi Kapoor, coming out in cinemas on May 31. It will be followed by Maddock Films' Stree 2 on August 30 and Raaj Shaandilyaa's Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video on October 11.

Sonakshi Sinha, meanwhile, has two completed movies awaiting release: Aditya Sarpotdar’s horror comedy, Kakuda, with Riteish Deshmukh and Saqib Saleem; and Kussh Sinha’s Nikita Roy and The Book of Darkness, co-starring Arjun Rampal and Paresh Rawal.
