PeepingMoon Exclusive: Emraan Hashmi to play THIS role in Sara Ali Khan’s Ae Watan Mere Watan

Emraan Hashmi has quietly finished shooting a cameo sequence in an Amazon Prime Video film. PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that he will play an extended cameo role in Sara Ali Khan’s biographical drama, Ae Watan Mere Watan. The Jannat actor is said to be essaying the role of socialist political leader Ram Manohar Lohia in this Dharmatic Entertainment production, centered around the life of freedom fighter Usha Mehta.

Lohia was a mentor to Mehta and played a crucial role in establishing Congress Radio, an underground radio station that served as a vital communication tool during the Quit India movement of 1942. “It’s a small but significant role in the narrative, and Emraan has fully justified it with his performance. He filmed his part in Mumbai last year and was more than delighted to contribute to this story of freedom fighters. Emraan’s presence adds an extra layer of excitement to this film,” a source close to the development told us.

Directed by Kannan Iyer and written by Darab Farooqui, Ae Watan Mere Watan is scheduled to premiere on March 22 on Amazon Prime Video. Interestingly, this film will mark Emraan’s second release in 15 days, as his Disney+Hotstar series, Showtime, is also set to premiere on March 8. The latter is a tinsel town drama series delving into the power struggles and off-camera conflicts occurring in the backstage of Bollywood. Naseeruddin Shah, Mahima Makwana, Mouni Roy, Shriya Saran, and Rajeev Khandelwal also play pivotal roles in this Sumit Roy-created show.

Emraan, who is currently in an exciting phase of his career, is exploring a variety of roles in Bollywood and South Indian movies. He is set to break into Telugu cinema with Pawan Kalyan's OG and will follow that up with Adivi Sesh's Goodachari 2. Also in his lineup are Excel Entertainment's Ground Zero and Disney+Hotstar’s Showtime, which marks his return to the OTT space five years after the Netflix espionage thriller, Bard of Blood.
