PeepingMoon Exclusive: Bhumi Pednekar set for web series debut alongside Ishaan Khatter in Netflix’s Royals

After captivating audiences with her theatrical outings such as Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Sonchiriya, Bala, and Badhaai Do, it's time for Bhumi Pednekar to explore the OTT sphere. PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that Bhumi is now making her web series debut, nine years after her tremendous breakthrough on the big screen with Yash Raj Films' Dum Laga Ke Haisha.

According to sources, Bhumi Pednekar will star alongside Ishaan Khatter in Netflix India's romantic drama series, tentatively titled Royals. The show, as we revealed last month, is an ensemble-cast, large-scale drama series, produced by Pritish Nandy Communications, a content company popularly known for producing Amazon Prime Video's International Emmy-nominated show Four More Shots Please!

“Bhumi wanted to explore long-format storytelling with a project that is unique yet commercially appealing and makes for a compelling watch for a broad audience. Royals encompasses everything she was looking for in her debut OTT venture, and she cannot wait to delve into this world. Her fresh chemistry with Ishaan Khatter would also be something to watch out for,” a source familiar with the development told us.

Royals will be directed by the American-Canadian filmmaker Nisha Ganatra, who is a Golden Globe winner and an Emmy nominee for her work as the director and producer of "Transparent.” She makes her Hindi cinema debut with this series and will co-direct it with Priyanka Ghose, who recently helmed Aditya Roy Kapur and Anil Kapoor’s hit show, The Night Manager, for Disney+Hotstar. The show, billed as the 24th production of PNC, is presently in pre-production and will commence filming in a couple of months.

Meanwhile, Bhumi Pednekar is awaiting the release of Red Chillies Entertainment's gritty crime thriller, Bhakshak, scheduled to premiere on February 9 on Netflix. She also stars in Mudassar Aziz’s romantic comedy, Mere Husband Ki Biwi, co-starring Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet. Ishaan Khatter, on the other hand, will next be seen alongside Nicole Kidman and Dakota Fanning in Netflix’s The Perfect Couple.
