Peeping Moon Exclusive: Jackie Shroff turns villain for Varun Dhawan; Joins Atlee and Murad Khetani’s action entertainer

After captivating hearts as a lonely old widower in Amazon Prime Video's latest release, Mast Mein Rehne Ka, Jackie Shroff is taking a complete flip in his next projects. The 66-year-old veteran Bollywood actor is playing an antagonist in Rohit Shetty's Singham Again, reprising his role as Lashkar chief Omar Hafeez from Sooryavanshi. While the cop drama is still in production, we hear Jackie is set to embrace the role of a villain in yet another film.

Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Jackie Shroff will now play the antagonist to Varun Dhawan in Atlee and Murad Khetani's next action entertainer, #VD18. The Theri remake features Varun in the role of a police officer, and though Jackie’s character details haven't been revealed yet, we understand he will be stepping into the role played by Tamil director Mahendran in the original. Jackie has already completed a significant portion of his scenes and will resume filming the remaining segments early next year.

The yet-untitled dramatic action entertainer revolves around a former police officer on a mission to protect his daughter from his past enemies. Varun steps into the shoes of Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay, with South Indian actress Keerthy Suresh and Jubilee fame Wamiqa Gabbi playing the leading ladies and roles portrayed by Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson, respectively, in the original. Sanya Malhotra, Rajpal Yadav, and Sheeba Chaddha also play pivotal roles in this revamped Hindi remake, directed by Tamil filmmaker Kalees.

#VD18 is currently being shot in Kochi and is expected to be completed by March in order to be released in theatres in summer 2024. The film marks Varun’s first full-fledged action entertainer, and he's reportedly giving his all to live up to the hype. Once it's wrapped, the Judwa 2 actor is expected to head to his father David Dhawan's next comic caper, set to go on floors in April 2024. He also has The Family Man creators Raj and DK’s next Amazon Prime series, Citadel, up for release next year. Jackie Shroff, meanwhile, will next be seen alongside Sunny Deol, Mithun Chakraborty, and Sanjay Dutt in Ahmed Khan and Zee Studios' action drama, Baap.
