Akshay Kumar seems to have made a strategic change in his film choices after a string of back-to-back duds over the past three years. The Khiladi Kumar has decided to stop choosing the small, content-driven drama films, which are no longer working in cinemas in the post-pandemic period, and solely choose large-theatrical films moving forward. His forthcoming slate of films are all big-scale projects meant for theatre viewing. Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which brings Akshay and Tiger Shroff together on-screen, is an action spectacle made on a humongous scale. Next up for the superstar is an aviation thriller film, Sky Force, billed as the biggest film coming out of Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.
Now, Peepingmoon.com has learned that Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force will be helmed by two directors. Debutants Sandeep Kelwani and Abhishek Kapur have been brought on board to jointly direct this aerial action thriller. While Sandeep is a screenplay writer with Ajay Devgn’s Runway 34 and Bholaa to his credit, Abhishek has been in the industry for 13 years and has assisted many filmmakers like Nitesh Tiwari, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Raj & DK, Amar Kaushik, and Laxman Utekar. "Sky Force is envisioned on a large scale, and Dinesh Vijan doesn’t want anything to go wrong with such an expensive project. The film requires it to be presented in a certain manner, and hence it was collectively decided to have two directors at the helm to bring out the film exactly as they have visualized it. Both directors have divided their responsibilities and have already begun the pre-production. The shooting will begin in the last week of May in London," a source close to the development told us.
Sky Force is based on a true event and stars Akshay Kumar in the role of an Air Force officer. It’s an ensemble-cast drama that revisits and celebrates one of the Indian Air Force’s greatest triumphs. The modalities have all been worked out, and Akshay has committed to start shooting it by the end of May. He is expected to finish Bade Miyan Chote Miyan by April-end and then the remaining song of Tinu Suresh Desai’s Capsule Gill before diving completely into the aerial actioner. The Maddock Films production is supposed to be shot in three months, after which Akshay will shift his attention to his highly anticipated Hera Pheri 3. Akshay, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal return to reprise their iconic roles in this comedy flick, this time under the direction of Housefull 4 fame Farhad Samji.
Akshay is expected to follow Hera Pheri’s third installment with the third part of Subhash Kapoor’s Jolly LLB in the last quarter of this year. He is also said to be doing Mudassar Aziz’s Khel Khel Mein, but that film has apparently been put on hold for the time being. On the release front, Akshay has the Soorarai Pottru remake scheduled to hit cinemas on September 1. His OMG 2 and Capsule Gill are also expected to be released this year, while BMCM, Sky Force, and Hera Pheri 3 are scheduled for a 2024 release.
