PeepingMoon Exclusive: Irrfan's son Babil I. Khan to headline Yash Raj Films' first web series; Shiv Rawail to direct!

In March 2021, Peepingmoon.com exclusively informed the readers that Yash Raj Films is marching into the dynamic world of digital entertainment. We revealed that Aditya Chopra is launching a separate digital division under his YRF banner to produce content specifically for OTT platforms. Later, we also reported that they've appointed Yogendra Mogre — who has 16 years of experience in the film production sector and also headed the production of YRF TV for two years — to lead its digital subsidiary that aims to paint the webspace red with its unique bouquet of shows. Cut to six months later, we have now learnt that the banner is all set to kick-off its web journey.

Industry sources have informed us that Yash Raj Films' first web series will be an investigative thriller and will star Irrfan's son Babil I Khan in the lead role. The yet-untitled five-episode show is said to be set in Bhopal and will go on floors this November. Debutant filmmaker Shiv Rawail who's the grandson of the legendary H.S. Rawail and son of Rahul Rawail has been roped in to direct this limited mini-series. The intriguing thriller marks India's 50-years-old premium production company Yash Raj Films' official foray into digital content production. The streaming platform for this show has not been finalized yet.

The Aditya Chopra-led banner, under the new digital subsidiary, intends to set the bar of OTT contents higher with its production values, and shows that will be distinct in their look with fresh, contemporary, and engaging storylines that reflect the dreams, aspirations, and passion of young India. Apart from this Babil Khan starrer, the company is also working on a web series that will be directed by Mardaani 2 fame Gopi Puthran.

Shiv Rawail was earlier supposed to make his directorial debut with YRF's big-scale superhero film starring Ajay Devgn, Ahaan Pandey, and Manushi Chillar. However, that project is believed to have been indefinitely postponed courtesy of the budget that doesn't seem feasible in the current scenario. Rawail will apparently head back to this superhero flick only after completing his web series next year. Meanwhile, Babil Khan is set to make his acting debut with Netflix film, Qala produced by Anushka Sharma. The Anvitaa Dutt directorial that also stars Tripti Dimri and Swastika Mukherjee is said to be a heartbreaking story about a daughter who craves her mother's love.
