PeepingMoon Exclusive: Madhuri Dixit signs Amazon Prime's family drama, Mere Paas Maa Hai!

Bollywood's Dhak Dhak girl Madhuri Dixit is all set to make her OTT debut. The Khalnayak actress is headlining Netflix's drama series Finding Anamika that will see her playing the role of a global superstar, wife and mother who suddenly vanishes without a trace. The Dharmatic Entertainment production directed by Karishma Kohli and Bejoy Nambiar is currently being shot and will premiere sometime later this year. Now, Peepingmoon.com has learned that Madhuri has signed yet another web project even before her debut digital vehicle hits the Netflix screens.

Industry sources have exclusively informed us that Madhuri Dixit is doing a feature film for Amazon Prime Video. The project is said to be a family drama and has interestingly been titled Mere Paas Maa Hai — named after the iconic Shashi Kapoor dialogue from the classic 1975 Hindi film, Deewar. Anand Tiwari who recently announced his marriage with actress Angira Dhar will be directing it. Anand has previously helmed Love Per Square Foot (2018), Ticket to Bollywood (2020) and last year's acclaimed Amazon Prime series, Bandish Bandits. Produced by Anand and Amritpal Singh Bindra's Still & Still Media Collective, the film is expected to go on floors in the next couple of months.

"Amazon Prime Video continues to make strong efforts to expand its footprint in India on the back of its aggressive strategies. They recently stepped into Bollywood movie production with Akshay Kumar's Ram Setu, and now they've started investing in feature films as well. Following the footsteps of its rival Netflix which has been backing web shows as well as Original films, Amazon Prime Video will also make feature films now onwards that will directly release on their streaming platform. This move is expected to up the company's ante against its rivals and expand the content portfolio further," a source close to the development informed us adding that the Madhuri Dixit film would be among the first Amazon Prime India Original to get off the ground.

Amazon Prime India has apparently been working on Originals slate for the last one year now and has already locked a couple of projects that also includes one Anushka Sharma production and a film starring Alaya F. Producer Shoaib Lokhandwala who was earlier with Saregama India's film division Yoodlee Films is said to have been appointed as Amazon Prime India's Original Movies Manager.
