The surge of the OTT streaming platforms has been a boon for many, especially actors who have been at the periphery of for long. One such name is of Ankur Bhatia, who although have been in the game for a decade found new stardom from Sushmita Sen and Chandrachur Singh led-series Aarya.
In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon.com, Ankur spoke about the OTT boom, his stint in Aarya and reprising his role in the second season and much more.
Excerpts from the interview:
OTT and web shows in lockdown have taken the country by storm. Do you feel this boom has given a new lease of life to actors?
Definitely, OTT has given us such fine actors and a wonderful platform to bring out the best to the audience. The audience has showered so much love and appreciated the work of every actor across the OTT platforms.So many wonderful actors have emerged from the OTT platform and have been doing wonders and have made a place for them in the industry.
Your stint in Aarya blew everyone, what the next season will have in store for the audience?
Well, I would only say that you will have to hold on to your excitement and wait for the second season to unveil. The second season is surely worth the wait and will keep the viewers on their foot. I am eagerly for situations to get better and we resume our shoots.
A lot of established actors are debuting on OTT, do you think they will once again call the shots like in Bollywood?
I really hope they do, and I wish we all get an opportunity to work with one another and get to learn from one another too.
Why did you decide to drop Mathematics and come to acting? What was that moment that defined your U-turn?
I always loved acting, be it on the stage or in front of the camera. I belong to a middle class family pursued by education and got engaged into a 9*5 job but the passion inside me was always alive. The passion and zeal inside me lead to this decision and I'm glad I took this decision.
Your debut film kickstarted its tryst from Cannes in 2010. A decade later, can you say you are doing the kind of work you always desired to?
Yes, I am happy about my journey so far and I wish to excel more. There are a lot of interesting projects that I want to be a part of and would love to explore different opportunities. I am so thankful for the kind of love and acceptance that I have received and will cherish it for a lifetime. I desire to do more and hopefully will do.
How will your character move forward in Aarya? Can you spill the beans?
As I said earlier you will have to contain your excitement and see it for yourself as the season premiers. Why kill the surprise? But yes I’m sure the new season will keep you glued to the seats and surprise you at every point.
What's in kitty for you next? Web of Films? Will you dabble in TV also?
Well, I'm a part of second installation of Crackdown 2 and few projects are also in pipeline which I'm eagerly looking forward to.
