PeepingMoon Exclusive: Ranveer Singh approached for Vashu Bhagnani's Suryaputra Mahavir Karna?

Ever since Vashu Bhagnani's Pooja Entertainment announced its most ambitious project, Suryaputra Mahavir Karna, there have been lots of speculations regarding who would be playing the titular character of the unsung warrior from Mahabharata. Billed as an epic saga told from the perspective of Karna, the multi-lingual film was announced last month with a one-minute teaser that offered a glimpse into the grand war epic we are set to witness with this RS Vimal directorial. While speculations are ripe that Chiyaan Vikram who was doing this film earlier is still a part of it, Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that the makers have approached Ranveer Singh for the lead role.

"What Pooja Entertainment has announced is a revamped version of the project. They are making it with a different set of cast and production teams, on a much bigger scale than earlier planned. Envisioned on an unparalleled scale with benchmark visual effects, the film requires someone who could bring Karna alive on screen and the makers believe Ranveer fits the bill to the T. They have approached the actor and he has also shown his interest, however, nothing concrete has materialized so far," informed a source close to the development.

Whether Ranveer gives his nod to this Karna project or not would be known only once the final narration happens. However, as things stand today, he has not taken a call on the project and is waiting for the full script before he gives it a go-ahead. "Talks are at the very initial stage and can't be said anything concretely at this moment. However, the makers are hopeful Ranveer would agree to do their film planned as a 300-crore extravaganza."

For the uninitiated, Suryaputra Mahavir Karna has been in the making for the last five years. The film was first announced by RS Vimal in 2016 as a Malayalam-Telugu bilingual with Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran playing the lead. However, the project couldn't take off after the producer backed out of it citing financial issues. It was then revived as a Pan-India project in 2018 with Chiyaan Vikram playing Karna, however, that film also couldn't proceed further even after being shot for a few days in 2019. With Pooja Entertainment backing the project now, the film is expected to finally see the light of the day. The film is currently in the writing stage and is expected to go on floors sometime next year.
