EXCLUSIVE: Akshay Kumar NOT playing baddie in Shankar’s 'Indian 2'

There’s a story doing the rounds that Akshay Kumar is going to be playing the baddie in Shankar’s Indian 2 which is a sequel to the filmmaker’s 1996 super hit Tamil film Indian starring Kamal Haasan. Not true at all. It began as a rumour, because Akshay recently did the antagonist’s role in Shankar’s 2.0 that had the great Rajni back again as Chitti the Robot. But PeepingMoon.com sources have it that the actor, who has four major Bollywood films releasing this year in Kesari, Good News, Mission Mangal and Housefull 4, is definitely not going to be playing the villain again.

The sources say that, yes, it is true Shankar did approach Akshay with the role of the antagonist in Indian 2 opposite Kamal Haasan. But the Bollywood superstar, who is close friends with the celebrated filmmaker from the South, declined the offer. Shankar is also believed to have gone to Ajay Devgn with the role of a cop in the same film. And while Ajay is said to have been keen to collaborate with Kamal Haasan, he could not take up Indian 2. Perhaps his dates were already given elsewhere. Industry sources say, however, that Ajay did not want to play another cop now that Bajirao Singham has become his brand in Bollywood.

Indian, which was dubbed in Hindi and released as Hindustani, is a vigilante film in which Kamal Haasan plays a double role. One, as an ex-freedom fighter who has turned vigilante after tragic circumstances in his family and is now violently rooting out corruption in the country. And, the second role as his son who is corrupt and without scruples and will stop at nothing to satisfy his greed for money. Manisha Koirala and Urmila Matondkar starred in Hindustani. The father kills the son in Hindustani. So Shankar obviously cannot have Kamal Haasan reprising both original roles in the sequel. Hence, the Tamil filmmaker’s search for a Bollywood superstar to play the villain’s role in Indian 2. But it’s not Akshay Kumar, that you can take from us!
