One of the biggest and best news of 2021 is that Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, the passionate jodi of Zoya Akhtar’s 2019 hit musical drama Gully Boy, are reuniting. They’re coming together for a love story by Dharma Productions. And directing it will be Karan Johar himself. It just doesn’t get more exciting than this!
While Alia had a release in Sadak 2 during the lockdown of 2020, fans of Ranveer are impatient to see the mercurial actor back on screen. While his slate of films is super exciting – he’s got 83 and Sooryavanshi ready for big theatrical release and has completed YRF’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar and is now shooting for Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus – Ranveer’s last outing was Gully Boy on Valentine’s Day in 2019. Alia meanwhile had Kalank and Sadak 2 after Gully Boy and she also made special appearances as herself in SOTY 2 and Angrezi Medium.
The third big superstar in this Dharma love story is the magnetic boss man of the production company. KJo returning to direction of a mainstream Bollywood film will have the trade pundits rubbing their hands in anticipation and glee. His last directorial was Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016. And while Karan did direct segments for the Netflix anthologies Lust Stories (2018) and Ghost Stories (2020), the Ranveer-Alia romance will be his big moment too.
This film, which is under wraps now, will be the first time Karan is directing Ranveer. And we don’t know who is looking forward to it more – the actor or director. The film will also be only the second time Karan is directing Alia after SOTY in 2012. While nothing more is known about it, Peeping Moon can tell you exclusively that Bollywood is gearing up for acche din. When Karan announces it, this romance by Dharma Productions will be the start of that exciting period.
