It’s not true that Deepika Padukone is not attending Sonam Kapoor’s wedding next week because she has not been invited. PeepingMoon.com can put to rest this ugly and snide rumour that has been doing the rounds lately. It gained currency because the two actresses who made their debut together in 2007 with Om Shanti Om and Saawariyan respectively and share a ‘Ranbir Kapoor’ connection are not the best of friends and have been sniping at one another regularly on social media. But there is no truth behind the rumour at all.
Bollywood was kind of surprised to know that Deepika would not be there for Sonam’s Mehendi, Wedding and Sangeet onMay 7 and 8. Especially since the Padmaavat actress’ beau Ranveer Singh will be part of the festivities and is going to be dancing at the Sangeet. Ranveer and Sonam are second cousins. Her maternal grandmother and his paternal grandfather are siblings. But Deepika’s absence at the wedding has not got to do with the cold war supposedly existing between Sonam and her and her not getting invited.
PeepingMoon.com has learned that Deepika will be giving the wedding a miss because she confirmed her presence at the Met Gala 2018 long ago and is going to be walking at what is referred to as “fashion’s biggest night out” in New York City. Met Gala, a fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, falls on May 7. Known as a pinnacle of ionic style, the event welcomes celebrities, young creative stars and industry paragons to what is the grand opening of the costume institute’s annual fashion exhibition.
Deepika and Priyanka Chopra had both walked for Met Gala 2017 because their respective Hollywood films xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and Baywatch were releasing shortly and people are not likely to forget their outfits. Priyanka went in a Ralph Lauren Collection trench coat with a massive tail (that needed four people to manage it) and high-heel black boots. And Deepika dressed in a poor fitting ivory white Tommy Hilfiger gown that lacked the oomph needed for the Met Gala. That was last year. It is not known what Deepika will wear at the Met Gala 2018, but the date makes it impossible for her to be at Sonam’s wedding.
