Revealed: Sidharth Malhotra plays Bihari groom abductor in 'Shotgun Shaadi'

Even though his last few movies haven't performed well at box office, Sidharth Malhotra continues to be a leading choice for every filmmaker. The actor who was last seen as Major Jai Bakshi in Neeraj Pandey's Aiyaary has signed a hardcore desi romantic drama as his next after doing some back-to-back serious roles in his last three releases.

Sidharth has locked a quintessential Hindi romance titled, Shotgun Shaadi where he will be seen playing a Bihari. Ekta Kapoor who gave him a blockbuster in the form of Ek Villain in 2014 will be backing this film along with Tanu Weds Manu producer Shailesh R Singh. Prashant Singh who was a former assistant of Aanand L Rai will helm this small town love story with edgy characters.

"Shotgun Shaadi is based on Bihar groom kidnappings. Siddharth plays a thug who indulges and abducts guys and gets them forcefully married to girls," a source told us revealing about the content of the film. "The film depicts the practice of Bihar's Pakaruah Shaadi where girls families kidnap grooms and forcibly marry them with their daughters at gunpoint to avoid heavy dowry cost. They seize grooms with the help of friends and relatives, and sometimes even hire local criminal gangs to carry out abductions when groom demands heavy dowries or backs out of a marriage owing to dowry."

Shraddha Kapoor who starred alongside Sidharth in Ek Villain has come on board to play the female lead. "She has given her nod but hasn't signed the dotted line yet. Apparently, Shraddha's role is bigger than Sidharth's role and she will also learn Bihari dialect for this film. The makers are discussing her dates and will roll the film accordingly," the source added.

We have also heard that Sidharth's Vikram Batra biopic which was supposed to be his next after Aiyaary has been put on hold due to its high budget issue. The source adds, "The biopic on Vikram Batra is on hold until the financials on the film are worked out between Shabbir Boxwala and Dharma Productions. Sidharth has given his dates earlier locked for the biopic to Shotgun Shaadi. Balaji production team were recently seen checking weather reports of some of the locations they have finalized for the film."

Shotgun Shaadi, we have learned, will be announced next month and go on floors in next few months.
