The singer to belt out Dharma hits and Hiroo Johar’s favourite songs!

Here’s something you don’t know about Hiroo Johar’s 75th birthday brunch that her doting son Karan Johar is hosting at the Taj Land’s End tomorrow. Sonu Nigam, Bollywood’s singing sensation, is going to be performing live at the venue. And he will be belting out all Hiroo Aunty’s (as she is popularly and affectionately known in the industry) favourite songs. Plus chartbusters of many Dharma Productions films which are always known for their outstanding music.

Sonu will most certainly sing the title track of Kal Ho Naa Ho, Karan’s 2003 romantic drama, which he rendered for the film and is reportedly the singer’s favourite song. Also his Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin from Agneepath, another box office hit from Karan in 2012, and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna from his 2006 romantic and musical film by the same name that Sonu sang with Alka Yagnik.

Preparations for the brunch are on in full swing. Karan’s customized invite that was accompanied by a bottle of champagne, cake, chocolates and a bouquet of Hiroo Aunty’s favourite white roses, has been the talk of Bollywood. The loving son is decorating his Pali Hill home and the Land’s End banquet hall with exotic flowers too, tomorrow. The menu is going to eclectic Indian and Chinese fare prepared by the Taj Group’s master chefs.

Among the other surprises he has lined up for his mother, Karan has also included a cake-cutting ceremony that will be backed no doubt by Sonu singing Happy Birthday to Hiroo Aunty. The guest list for this party of March reads like a Bollywood’s Directory and includes Waheeda Rehman, Neetu Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Gauri Khan, and Jaya Bachchan with daughter Shweta, Shobha and Ekta Kapoor and many others from Mumbai’s swish society.

Incidentally, Karan didn’t join his team of Brahmastra in Bulgaria where they were celebrating Alia Bhatt’s birthday on the sets on Thursday because he was so busy planning his mother’s 75th birthday party. On International Women’s Day, Karan posted on Instagram: “I was raised by a woman who had a strong mind... an independent mind and a solid soul... she taught me how to live a fearless life along with a strong sense of right and wrong! She also taught me the art of abandon! She made me the man I am....a man who is honoured to be raised by a woman of substance!”
