When Kangana met Karan!

Here is proof that there are no forever friends and eternal enemies in Bollywood. Last evening, on the sets of Star Plus’ new talent hunt show India’s Next Superstar, the indefatigable and indestructible Kangana Ranaut met that flamboyant filmmaker Karan Johar and the expected sparks didn’t fly.

Karan and Rohit Shetty are judges on the show which will air tomorrow night with Priyanka Chopra as its first guest. When the show was announced, the media asked Karan how he would react if Kangana was invited to India’s Next Superstar. The filmmaker was accused of being the flag bearer of nepotism in Bollywood and of running a movie mafia by Kangana last year after she appeared on his TV chat show Koffee with Karan. Since then, things between them have been cool.

But Karan, suavely and diplomatically, told the media, “When Star Plus invites her, we will be happy to have Kangana. Our heart is big and our house is open to all. We will happily, lovingly and respectfully welcome her on the show.” And that is what happened when Kangana and Karan met on the stage of India’s Next Superstar. They hugged and kissed. Not like they had made up. But as if nothing was wrong at all. And they didn’t give one another the cold shoulder but were all smiles in each other’s company. Finally, they posed for pictures. Onlookers were most surprised and disappointed. Nepotism was not on the agenda.

Kangana, who was dressed in a red outfit, had like Karan told the media earlier, “I am looking forward to being on the show. It is a professional commitment for which I'm being paid. What is delightful is that Karan is okay with doing the show with me and seems to be slowly warming up to me."

India's Next Superstar’s winner will get a role in a Karan Johar or Rohit Shetty film. The show's tagline is Na khandaan, na sifarish. That, Kangana said, described her perfectly. "I am the epitome of the tagline, being a self-made woman and actress, which is why the channel wants me. I have not gone back on my ideology." Karan, who denied the tagline was an answer from his side to anything, said, “Lot of people want to be part of the entertainment industry but it is difficult to find a platform. We are providing this platform to all those who are talented."
