Ranveer, Deepika, Shahid to come together for grand event

Padmavati’s coming to a theatre close to you! Or, at least, a new trailer with the wizardry of 3D technology that will enhance the viewer’s participation in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama. It’s coming, only nobody knows where. Maybe even a suburban five star in Mumbai whose grand ballroom will be converted to showcase the spectacular teaser. When, Peeping Moon.com can take a guess. It’s likely to happen on Tuesday, October 31. Though reports from the film’s sets are that Bhansali’s technical crew with Hollywood experts are working round the clock to finish this product. There’s some last minute patchwork left that has pushed forward the event by a day.

Otherwise, it might have been shown tomorrow. Nevertheless, the news is exciting enough to make people change all plans for Halloween’s Day in the city. There’s more than that. Bhansali is also reportedly keen to exhibit a two-minute war sequence from Padmavati in 3D that will bring the blood and glory of the battlefield into Tuesday’s screening. The inspiration behind this, sources say, is Paramount Pictures of Hollywood that was left gasping in amazement at the film’s trailer and immediately acquired worldwide distribution rights to Padmavati from a delighted Bhansali. Knocked out by the filmmaker’s brilliance and the sheer magnificence of his subject, the Hollywood studio executives are reported to have impressed upon Bhansali the need to release Padmavati in colour because 3D films work well especially abroad and guarantee better box office collections. The suggestion apparently worked for Bhansali because from the days of Devdas in 2002 and right up to Bajirao Mastani in 2015, the filmmaker has always wanted one of his larger-than-life projects made in 3D. Now, who’s going to be shown the 3D trailer and two-minute sequence if it happens on Tuesday?

Peeping Moon.com sources say it will be a closed door event open onto to a handful of selected media persons and exhibitors and distributors. It will be a grand event in keeping with the opulence of the film and not open to the janta, the sources added. Bollywood is wondering whether Bhansali will include his recently released first song Ghoomar from Padmavati in the 3D trailer. But sources say that is not going to happen. The highlight of this show, however, will be the entire cast of the film coming onstage for the first time. Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor are expected to watch the 3D trailer with Paramount Pictures representatives. And there is likely to be a small performance on Ghoomar but Deepika will not perform and only a group of dancers from the film will present the song as it is shown on screen. All this is still in the drawing board stage. Once a venue is decided, Bhansali will take a call on whether to decorate it like a battlefield or Rajputana palace. The filmmaker is paranoid about piracy and does not want the 3D trailer and two-minute war sequence leaked out so everybody will be frisked and probably asked to surrender their cell phones at the security desk before entering the venue.
