Exclusive: SRK was not offered ‘Don 3’ – Ranveer and Ranbir were and it’s a prequel about ‘The Rise of Don’

Everybody got it wrong! Shah Rukh Khan, reportedly still smarting from the failure of his December release Zero, is believed to have backed out of Farhan Akhtar’s action thriller Don 3 for personal reasons. And Ranveer Singh, who did Gully Boy for Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, has been asked to come on board.

What’s more, Katrina Kaif has reportedly been asked to play the female lead in the third part of the franchise because Priyanka Chopra who acted opposite SRK in the sequel (Amitabh Bachchan did the first Don in 1978) was not in consideration at all.

Now PeepingMoon.com has startling news!

Shah Rukh was never offered Don 3 by Farhan and Ritesh in the first place because the film is meant to be a prequel going back in time. And if it happens, it would probably be called The Rise of Don just as SRK’s sequel in 2011 was titled Don 2: The King is Back. There’s juicier khabbar to chew on. Both, Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor were offered the film but PeepingMoon.com sources say it does not seem like either actor will step into the role of the master criminal wanted by the police of many nations that was made famous by Mr. Bachchan and then popular by SRK.

Farhan, who helmed the sequel in 2011 where SRK made an impact as the titular character, has been besieged with questions on when the two will collaborate on Don 3. Bollywood sites have also reported that the third part will be the last and will be called Don: The Final Chapter

When he was asked at a Gully Boy promo in February about the third installment of Don, Farhan snapped, “This is like a staple question that I’m asked wherever I go. I don’t have any updates for you.” And that in a nutshell is the fate of what promised to be one of Bollywood’s most thrilling franchises.
