From romance and comedy to horror, social dramas and historical spectacles, Maddock Films has built a reputation for backing stories across genres while keeping content at the centre. The production house, led by Dinesh Vijan, is now stepping into another space with Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam, a courtroom drama based on the life and legal career of public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam.
The film explores the legal battle that followed the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, particularly Nikam’s role as the public prosecutor in the Ajmal Kasab trial. Rather than simply focusing on the accused, Prahaar brings the courtroom battle and the pursuit of justice to the forefront, making it a story rooted in one of the most significant legal proceedings in recent Indian history.
The film also marks a reunion between Rajkummar Rao and Avinash Arun, who were college friends. Arun has revealed that Rajkummar was always his first choice to play Ujjwal Nikam, making their collaboration on the project particularly significant.
For Maddock, Prahaar marks another expansion of its storytelling universe. After successfully exploring multiple genres, the production house is now venturing into courtroom drama and real-life storytelling, adding a legal and nationally significant subject to its growing slate.
Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam stars Rajkummar Rao as Ujjwal Nikam, along with Wamiqa Gabbi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Sikandar Kher, Ashish Vidyarthi, Lalit Prabhakar and Ritvik Sahore. The film is directed by Avinash Arun and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. Prahaar is set to release in cinemas on October 16, 2026.
