Trupti Khamkar has been winning praise for her performance as a police officer in Meghna Gulzar’s recently released film Daayra, which stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Known for bringing a natural ease to her characters, Trupti has taken on a more serious and realistic role in the film, giving audiences a chance to see a different side of her as an actor.
Talking about the response to her performance in Daayra, Trupti Khamkar said she feels grateful for the opportunity Meghna Gulzar gave her. The actress revealed that the role allowed her to explore a side of acting that audiences had not seen from her before.
“I have played a police officer in Daayra, which is directed by Meghna Gulzar ji, and she has been very, very kind enough to let me portray a character that no one has seen till now. No one has seen me doing such serious, very realistic work. So, which is a great thing for me. My audience has been very kind. I am a blessed actor. I believe that they love whatever I do,” Trupti said.
The actress also spoke about the particular scene that has received a lot of attention from viewers. Trupti revealed that the chase sequence was something she was excited about from the very beginning, even when she first read the script and met Meghna.
“Everyone who has seen this film has come back to me and said, ‘What a chase scene it was.’ So, the chase scene was something that even I was excited about from the word go when I read the script for the first time and met Meghna Gulzar. Action is very close to my heart as an actor. I enjoy doing it, and I think that Meghna ji has done full justice to my performance. I think people are talking and raving about that scene for me,” she added.
After Daayra, Trupti is hopeful that she will get more opportunities where she can be selective about the work she takes up. The actress admitted that she has not yet reached a stage where scripts regularly come to her with the freedom to choose between them.
“Till now, it hasn't happened in my life that someone has sent me a script in which I choose whether to do it or not. But I'm really hoping and praying that after Daayra, that time will come very soon when I will be able to choose,” Trupti shared.
She further explained that the size of a role is not the only thing that matters to her. Instead, she wants to play characters that have something meaningful to add to the overall story.
“I do look for a character that adds value to the main story, that adds value to the film, which may not be a primary character, but who still has a very strong input to give to the story. It also challenges me and satisfies me as a performer. So these two things are very important for me before I do any kind of script,” the actress concluded.
