From a gripping crime thriller to a pop-culture phenomenon, the Drishyam franchise has built a strong and loyal audience around one of Hindi cinema’s most recognisable characters, Vijay Salgaonkar. What began as a story of an ordinary family man trying to protect his loved ones has grown into a franchise where every date, alibi and carefully constructed lie has become part of popular culture.
The first Drishyam, released in 2015, established Vijay as the man who could stay several steps ahead of the system. His meticulous planning and presence of mind turned the character into someone audiences continued to root for. The film opened at around 5.8 crore in India and went on to collect approximately 67.13 crore domestically, according to Bollywood Hungama. Box Office India puts its India nett total at around 68.67 crore.
Seven years later, Drishyam 2 significantly raised the stakes. The film opened at 15.38 crore and went on to collect around 240.54 crore nett in India, marking a major jump from its predecessor.
Now, Drishyam: The Conclusion brings Vijay Salgaonkar back for what the makers have confirmed as the franchise’s final chapter.
This time, Jaideep Ahlawat enters as SP Crime Branch Rajveer Singh Tomar, a new investigator determined to uncover the truth Vijay has kept buried. Ahlawat has clarified that Rajveer is not a replacement for Akshaye Khanna’s character but has his own journey within the new story.
That sets up the franchise’s biggest battle of wits yet. After managing to outmanoeuvre the investigation twice, can Vijay stay ahead of the law one last time?
The box-office expectations are already reflecting the franchise’s growth. Trade discussions around the opening day have ranged from 30–40 crore, while some reports have put the projected opening in the 40–50 crore range. These remain trade estimates, not confirmed figures.
With the film releasing on October 2, coinciding with the Gandhi Jayanti national holiday, the finale is arriving with both franchise goodwill and a major holiday advantage.
