From Survival to Self-Belief: Krishna Shroff’s Powerful Take on Women and Strength

Conversations around women's safety often gain momentum in the aftermath of unfortunate incidents, with the focus largely shifting to measures of protection. However, fitness entrepreneur and MMA Matrix co-founder Krishna Shroff believes the conversation needs to evolve beyond reacting to crises and instead centre on building confidence, resilience and strength from an early age.

In recent years, combat sports have steadily gained popularity among women in India. According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, participation in strength training and martial arts among women has seen a consistent growth globally, reflecting a broader shift from appearance-driven fitness to performance, confidence and overall well-being. More women today are embracing disciplines like boxing, mixed martial arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, not just as forms of exercise, but as tools for self-belief.

For Krishna, who has spent years promoting combat sports through MMA Matrix, this transformation is encouraging. "We need to stop teaching women just how to survive, we need to teach them how to feel powerful. Strength isn't only about defending yourself in difficult situations; it's about carrying confidence into every room, making decisions without fear and believing in your own capabilities," she says.

Krishna believes introducing young girls to combat sports early can have benefits that extend far beyond physical fitness. The discipline, focus and mental resilience developed through martial arts often translate into greater confidence in everyday life, whether in education, careers or personal relationships.

"Martial arts don't teach aggression; they teach discipline, respect and self-belief. Every girl deserves the opportunity to experience that confidence, regardless of whether she wants to compete professionally or simply become a stronger version of herself," she adds.

As conversations around women's empowerment continue to grow across the country, Krishna hopes the focus also shifts towards creating an environment where girls are encouraged to embrace strength without hesitation. For her, true empowerment begins long before a moment of crisis. It starts with giving women the tools, opportunities and confidence to lead fearlessly every single day.
