Kartik Aaryan’s Exceptional Journey: From ‘The Monologue Guy’ To A Box Office Force Since Pyaar Ka Punchnama

Before the box office success and mainstream recognition, Kartik Aaryan was a small town boy from Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) with no film background or industry connections, chasing his big Bollywood dreams. When Pyaar Ka Punchnama released in 2011, it introduced an innocent boy whose relatable screen presence and raw energy connected strongly with younger audiences. This Luv Ranjan directorial film earned Kartik Aaryan the tag of ‘The Monologue Guy’ along with doing decent business at the box office.

The major turning point in Kartik’s carrier arrived with Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety in 2018, where he delivered his first major breakthrough as a leading man. The film not only became a commercial success but also emerged as his first 100 crore box office hit, establishing him as a bankable young star with a strong audience pull.

In 2019, Kartik strengthened his position in the commercial space with Laxman Utekar’s Luka Chuppi, where his character Guddu Shukla connected strongly with family audiences and the mass market. The same year, Bhushan Kumar’s Pati Patni Aur Woh further showcased his comic timing and mainstream appeal, with his performance as loveable Chintu Tyagi. The momentum continued with Love Aaj Kal (2020), where he explored a more intense romantic space while balancing dual timelines and emotional arcs.

Post-pandemic, when the entertainment world was going through a tough phase, Kartik Aaryan entered into a defining phase of his career. In 2021, Ram Madhvani’s Dhamaka marked a shift into darker territory, presenting him in a more restrained and intense avatar. This was followed by Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 in 2022, where his character Rooh Baba became hugely popular with audiences. At a time when theatres were still recovering from the COVID slowdown, the film emerged as one of the biggest Hindi box office successes and played a major role in bringing audiences back to cinemas after a prolonged dry spell.

The same year, Shashanka Ghosh’s Freddy showcased yet another side of Kartik Aaryan as an intense performer, as he stepped into psychological thriller territory with a quieter and more layered performance as Dr Freddy Ginwala, further expanding his image as an actor willing to experiment beyond mainstream entertainers.

In 2023, Sameer Vidwans’ Satyaprem Ki Katha saw Kartik Aaryan step into the role of Sattu along with Kiara Advani as Katha, returning to an emotional romantic drama space while balancing commercial appeal with a more rooted and sensitive performance.

The next phase brought another milestone with Chandu Champion (2024), a performance-driven film that earned Kartik Aaryan his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor, marking a significant moment in his career trajectory. Around the same period, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 continued his successful run in the franchise space and went on to collect 423.85 crore worldwide at the box office. Today, his franchise stands in top three most successful and loved horror comedies of Indian cinema.

Beyond films, Kartik Aaryan has built a strong brand value for himself over the years. With over 50.6 million followers on Instagram, he ranks among the top three most-followed Indian male actors on the platform and enjoys a massive youth connect across the country. Today, several top endorsement brands associate with him due to his popularity, relatability, and growing pull in the market. With more than two dozen brand endorsements to his name, Kartik has established himself as one of the most sought-after and commercially valuable stars of his generation.

Looking ahead, Kartik Aaryan’s upcoming lineup includes Naagzilla, Captain India, an untitled musical love story with Anurag Basu, and a sports drama with Kabir Khan-projects that are expected to further expand his filmography and screen image.
