‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ trailer review: Imtiaz Ali, A.R. Rahman reunite for another soulful journey

In Imtiaz Ali's films, love is never merely a narrative; rather, it manifests as a palpable emotion. The trailer for his new film, Main Vaapas Aaunga, leaves one with a similar sentiment. Clocking in at approximately 3 minutes and 10 seconds, this trailer feels incredibly soothing, visually stunning, and deeply steeped in emotion.

The film's greatest strength lies in its visual tone. The manner in which nature, glimpses of a bygone era, and the backdrops of the pre and post-Partition periods have been portrayed looks absolutely exquisite on screen.   The trio of A.R. Rahman, Imtiaz Ali, and lyricist Irshad Kamil have reunited once again, and judging by the trailer, it is evident that their magic is set to work its charm all over again. The background score and the brief glimpses of the songs offer a soothing balm to the ears; indeed, the music feels like the very soul of the trailer.

The pairing of Vedang Raina and Sharvari Wagh feels incredibly fresh on screen. The chemistry between the two appears natural, further heightening anticipation for the film. Meanwhile, the presence of Naseeruddin Shah lends a distinct gravitas to the trailer. Interestingly, Vedang appears to be playing the younger version of Naseeruddin Shah's character. The trailer also offers a fleeting glimpse of Diljit Dosanjh, though his character remains shrouded in mystery.

For now, the trailer appears to succeed in making a lasting impression in this regard. However, whether the film can fully replicate this magic on the big screen remains to be seen until its release.

Produced under the banners of Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, this film has been directed by Imtiaz Ali. Additionally, Mohit Choudhary and Shibasish Sarkar's Window Seat Films is also associated with this project. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 12, 2026.
