Debaditya Bandopadhyay’s Ped Chalta Hai Set for World Premiere at Cannes Marché du Film on May 14

Some stories are written, while others are felt. Ped Chalta Hai (When The Tree Moves) belongs to the latter,  a film that quietly brings the voice of nature to the forefront, Directed by Debaditya Bandopadhyay, the film is set to have its World Premiere at the Marché du Film on May 14 alongside the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

Shot extensively across Palamu, the film explores themes of forests, land, water, and environmental conservation while capturing the untouched beauty of Jharkhand. Rather than delivering a loud message, the film chooses a quieter, more emotional approach.

Speaking about the project, Debaditya Bandopadhyay shares, “Ped Chalta Hai was never imagined as just a film. It began as a feeling, a discomfort about how we treat our forests and move on as if nothing has changed. While shooting in Palamu, the forest felt alive. This film is my attempt to translate that silence into a story.”

Produced by Outline Expression in association with Masoom Art Group, the film has Amit Behl as Creative Producer. “This film speaks without noise. There is no preaching, just a story that slowly stays with you,” he says.

The original background score is by Anand Bhaskar with Music Director Vijay Verma. The vocals are by Krishna Beura. The film stars Virendra Saxena, Pramod Pathak, Kumar Saurabh, Mainak Banerjee and several local artists from Palamu.

At its heart, Ped Chalta Hai asks a haunting question, what happens when the forests we ignore begin to respond? More than just a film, it arrives as a reminder that nature is not silent, and its voice can no longer be ignored.
