From Humble Beginnings to Pan India’s Biggest Actor Writer Director Superstar, Check the Journey of This One Man Army

Rishab Shetty’s journey from modest beginnings in coastal Karnataka to becoming one of Indian cinema’s most powerful creative forces is a story of perseverance, passion, and purpose. Born as Prashanth Shetty in Keradi village, Kundapura, he moved to Bengaluru to pursue his dreams, supporting himself through odd jobs while immersing himself in theatre and traditional Yakshagana.

His early years in cinema saw him working behind the scenes and taking up supporting roles in films like Tuglak (2012), Lucia (2013), and Ulidavaru Kandante (2014). These experiences shaped his understanding of filmmaking from the ground up. In 2016, he made his directorial debut with Ricky, followed by the blockbuster Kirik Party, which marked his arrival as a promising filmmaker and storyteller.

Rishab Shetty’s creative vision found wider recognition with Sarkari Hi. Pra. Shaale, Kasaragodu, Koduge: Ramanna Rai (2018), which won the National Film Award for Best Children’s Film. His defining moment came with Kantara (2022), which he wrote, directed, and starred in. The film became a cultural phenomenon and earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor, along with Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

The success continued with Kantara: Chapter 1, which strengthened his pan India presence and reaffirmed his obox office dominance. Much like legends Guru Dutt and Raj Kapoor, Rishab Shetty has emerged as a true one man army, seamlessly balancing the roles of actor, writer, and director.
