Former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede has filed a defamation suit in the Delhi High Court. The suit is filed against actor Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan's company, Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., global streaming platform Netflix, and other parties. Sameer Wankhede alleges that the recently released web series "The Bads of Bollywood," directed by Aryan Khan, portrays him in a false and negative light.
Sameer Wankhede was the zonal director of the NCB's Mumbai zone and was the officer who arrested Shah Rukh Khan's son, Aryan Khan, in the 2021 cruise drug party case. He claims the series deliberately contains content that not only damages his personal reputation but also portrays drug enforcement agencies in a ridiculous and unreliable light.
In the petition, Wankhede seeks a permanent and mandatory injunction, a declaration, and damages. He claims that an episode of the series features a character whose appearance and mannerisms resemble him. The character is portrayed as an NCB officer who conducts raids on Bollywood parties. Wankhede alleges that this character was created with the express intention of humiliating and ridiculing him.
He also states that the content depicted in "The Bads of Bollywood" is false, malicious, and presented in a distorted manner, intended to tarnish his reputation. The petition also states that the series comes at a time when the cases involving him and Aryan Khan are still pending in the Bombay High Court and the NDPS Special Court in Mumbai. Consequently, the project directly attacks his image and undermines the credibility of law enforcement agencies among the public. The case regarding this series streaming on Netflix has now reached the court and it remains to be seen what the next turn in this high-profile controversy is.
