A cloudburst following heavy rains on Tuesday caused massive destruction in Dharali village of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Heavy rains and the surge of Kheer Ganga devastated the entire village. The flood of water and debris created havoc in the village. So far four people have been confirmed dead, while about 70 people are reported missing. Many film stars including actress Sara Ali Khan, Sonu Sood have expressed deep condolences on this disaster.
Sara Ali Khan expressed grief over the incident through Instagram story and wrote, "My condolences to all those affected by this incident in Uttarakhand. I pray for everyone's safety and speedy recovery. May the affected people get strength." She also shared the emergency numbers of Uttarkashi District Emergency Operations Center, so that relief work can be helped.
Actor Sonu Sood wrote on Twitter, "The heart is saddened by the devastation caused by the floods and cloudburst in Uttarkashi. Prayers for all those affected. This is the time for the whole country to unite. The government is doing its job, but we too as individuals have to stand with all those who have lost their homes, livelihoods and their loved ones."
Bhumi Pednekar wrote, "What is happening in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand is heartbreaking."
Actor Adivi Sesh also wrote, "Heartbroken to see the scenes of the disaster in Uttarakhand. Prayers for all those affected."
According to the district administration, 130 people were rescued by late evening. Four deaths have been confirmed, while 70 people are still missing. It is estimated that about 30 hotels, shops and houses were swept away in the debris, many houses were buried under the rubble and roads were destroyed. There is a scene of devastation all around in Dharali village.
