Bollywood has evolved with intense love stories from Ek Duuje Ke Liye to Dhadak 2

Everybody enjoys a good love story. And Bollywood’s scriptwriters are excellent storytellers. They tell love stories that leave lasting memories in the minds and hearts of audiences. These are not just about romance, but also gripping examples of passion, struggle and rebellion. Dhadak 2, which releases on August 1, promises to be one such film. The sequel to Dhadak that released in 2018 and gave Bollywood a young, gorgeous and vivacious Janhvi Kapoor, is a deeply emotional love story that resonates with how society looks at love between unequals.

Bollywood has a history of such stories. Going as far back as 1981 with Ek Duuje Ke Liye that was Kamal Hasan’s entry into Bollywood and showcased love blossoming amidst turbulent familial differences over language and culture in a very sensitive manner. The film’s tragic ending still stirs up strong emotions in viewers. Another example was Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak of 1988 that became the voice of young hearts and showed how truly heartrending the result can be when society and family stand against love. The pairing of Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla gave a different high to this story. Sairat, released in 2016, exposed the reality of casteism through a love story. Nagraj Manjule's Marathi film showed that even today true love has to fight society.

Then came Dhadak in 2018, which presented the spirit of Sairat in a Bollywood way. Even though its treatment was a little soft, its emotions and courage settled in the hearts of the audience. Now Dhadak 2 takes this legacy forward with more depth. Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri's pairing brings a love story that will not only touch hearts, but also make viewers think. When love is true, it becomes a revolution, not just an emotion.
