Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade has got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court stayed his arrest in a cheating and betrayal case registered against him. Challenging the action being taken by the Haryana Police in this case, Shreyas Talpade had filed a petition in the Supreme Court. Hearing this, a bench of Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice KV Vishwanathan gave him relief and issued notice to other concerned parties including Haryana Police and sought a reply.
The case is of Murthal in Sonipat district of Haryana, where an FIR was registered against a society on a complaint of cheating and betrayal. This FIR includes the names of 13 people including actor Shreyas Talpade and senior actor Alok Nath. The complainant alleges that a multi-level marketing company gained the trust of investors by calling these two actors as brand ambassadors and defrauded 45 people of about Rs 9.12 crore through a chit fund scheme.
According to the complaint, under the scheme, it was claimed that the amount invested would double in six years. People involved in this scheme were encouraged to add other investors by giving them positions like manager. Gradually, when crores of rupees were collected, the society's offices started closing from the month of November. Panicked by this, investors lodged FIRs in different police stations, but no concrete action was taken.
After this, the victims approached the court, due to which a report was also filed against seven people including the actor and director in Lucknow's Gomtinagar Extension police station. Now the Supreme Court has intervened in this entire matter and provided protection to Shreyas Talpade from arrest.
This case is not only related to the image of film celebrities, but also highlights the seriousness of the financial fraud being done with common investors. Further hearing in the court will make it clear whether Shreyas Talpade's role was actually that of a limited brand ambassador or he was part of the entire structure of the scheme.
