Last Friday, i.e. on 18th July, many big and popular films were released in theatres. While some films won the hearts of the audience and performed brilliantly at the box office, many films failed to live up to expectations. In this report, we will talk about the box office report card of five major films released on 18th July - Saiyaara, Special Ops 2, Tanvi: The Great, Nikita Roy and Murderbaad - whose performance ranged from superhit to disaster.
Saiyaara - Superhit
Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara made a blockbuster start at the box office. The debut pair of Ahan Pandey and Aneet Padda in the film was accepted by the audience with open heart. The film, which opened with around 21 crore on the first day, earned more than 80 crore by its weekend. The music of the film, especially the title track and romantic songs, have become popular among the people. The film also received positive response from critics and is being termed as the biggest debut film of 2025.
Special Ops 2 – Hit
Neeraj Pandey's Special Ops 2 has also made a good hold among the audience. This action-thriller was especially liked by web series fans. The show has got the status of 'hit' due to KK Menon's strong performance and tight editing. However, it remained limited to its niche audience as compared to the mass audience.
Tanvi: The Great – Average
Tanvi: The Great might not have been much talked about, but the film recorded an average opening. The script and treatment of the film were nothing new, which is why it managed to attract only a select audience. With a weekend collection of around 6 crore, the film can neither be called a flop nor a hit at the box office. it is considered completely ‘average’.
Nikita Roy : Disaster
Sonakshi Sinha’s Nikita Roy turned out to be the biggest disappointment. The film was completely rejected by the audience. Despite being a supernatural thriller, its story and treatment were weak, due to which the audience could not connect. This OTT film is being counted among the biggest flops of the year.
Murderbaad : Flop
The Tamil-Hindi thriller film Murderbaad also failed to bring audiences to the theatres. The promotions of the film were limited and the story also did not leave much impact. Critics also criticized the slow pace and weak direction of the film. The total earnings of the film in the weekend were between 2-3 crores, due to which it went into the category of flops.
