‘Saiyaara’ creates history: Biggest opening day ever for a debutant-led love story without any promotion

Mohit Suri's new film Saiyaara has rocked the box office on the very first day of its release. The film earned a total of 21.25 crores in India on Friday, which is the biggest opening ever for a film with a debutant star-cast. New faces like Ahan Pandey and Aneet Padda have started their career with this film, and have won the hearts of audiences across the country on the very first day. Achieving these figures without any interviews, press meets, city tours or social media promotion is a big thing in itself.

This love story has set a new record in Indian cinema. This film has not only become the biggest opening of any debut film, but after 'Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai' and 'Refugee', it has become the first film in the last 25 years to sell the most tickets on the first day. Interestingly, the film got only 8,000 shows across the country, which is usually considered very low for a 20 crore+ opener. Despite this, the housefull board in the theatres proves that the audience has completely embraced the film.

Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara has not only made a place for itself as a pure love story, but it has also become the first love story in the list of films released after Covid to cross the 20 crore mark on the first day. Before this, none of Mohit Suri's films had been able to achieve such an opening. In such a situation, it has also become the biggest opening day of his career.

There was no promotion for the film, nor any star interview, yet the content itself took the film to this level. This new offering from Yash Raj Films and Mohit Suri has turned out to be a refreshing love story for the audience and it has also made it clear that good stories still have the power to draw audiences to the theatres.
