TV actress Gargi Moushik Patel duped of ₹45,000 in online scam over sale of household items

A case of fraud of Rs 45,000 has come to light with television and film actress Gargi Moushik Patel from Worli area of Mumbai. This cyber fraud was carried out by a fraudulent youth on the pretext of buying household goods. The accused cheated the actress of this amount by telling her to buy a washing machine, audio receiver/amplifier and dishwasher.

According to the information received, in April 2025, the actress posted an advertisement on Facebook to sell the old washing machine of her house. After this, many people contacted her. She shared her mobile number with some people for conversation. On April 18, a man contacted her calling himself Tarun and expressed his desire to buy a washing machine.

After this, on April 24, the same person contacted again and introduced himself as a trader who buys and sells old electronic goods. When he asked for more goods, the actress also sent him pictures of the audio receiver and dishwasher. The price of all these goods was fixed at Rs 40,000. The young man first transferred Rs 35,000 to the actress's account and promised to send the remaining Rs 5,000 soon.

After some time, he called and claimed that he had mistakenly sent Rs 50,000 instead of Rs 5,000 and requested the actress to return the additional Rs 45,000. Without confirming, the actress transferred a total of Rs 45,000 from not only her account but also her husband's account to the account mentioned. After this, the young man started making excuses and later stopped picking up the phone.

After realizing that she had been cheated, the actress lodged a complaint at the Worli police station. The police have registered a case against the unknown person and investigation is underway.
