Past controversy haunts Kunal Kamra again, Privilege Proceedings likely to begin soon over parody song

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has once again come under fire for a parody song on Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The song was performed during a show in March, in which no one was directly named, but its context created a ruckus in political circles.

BJP leader and MLA Darekar had moved a special contempt notice in the state Legislative Council over the song. He claimed that Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) faction spokesperson Samara Ankhare was also dragged into the matter. Legislative Council Secretary Chaudhary Bhole has confirmed that the council's Akhlaq Ram Shinde has sent a notice to BJP leader Prasad Lad's Gurgaon committee in the matter. When contacted, Lad said that the committee has held a meeting on the matter and started the process of empanelling both Kamra and Ankhare.

It is believed that there was a place in this registry and recording where the leaders of the Shinde faction were present, which also increased the controversy. Records were also registered against Kamra on social media, after which he made a list of bailors in the Bombay High Court.

Kamra has been in the news before as well. In May 2020, he shared a morphed video of PM Modi in which the song 'Mehangi Daayan' from 'Peepli Live' was added. He deleted it after the video controversy. The comedian's political parody is once again being seen in legal and political parodies.
