Genelia D’Souza highlights industry bias against married actresses in role selection

Bollywood actress Genelia D'Souza will soon be seen with Aamir Khan in the film 'Sitare Zameen Par'. In this film, she is playing the role of Aamir Khan's wife. Recently, during an interview, Genelia expressed happiness about her comeback in films, but also shared the pain that Bollywood ignored her after marriage.

In a conversation with Filmy Mantra Media, Genelia said, "When people came to know that I am doing 'Sitare Zameen Par', everyone said, 'Oh God! How lucky you are, you are doing Aamir Khan's film.' I said, yes, it is Aamir sir's generosity that he saw something in me. He called me for audition and I auditioned three times. But why can't other people also do this? You can also give me a chance."

On the roles she gets after marriage, Genelia said, “Maybe people think that now that I am married, I don’t need such roles. But I think that just as filmmaking has changed, our thinking should also change.” The actress also said, “If you are looking for an actor for a role of a particular age, then you should take an actor of that age. When we take an actor much younger than that, they are not able to understand the nuances of that character. Therefore, choosing the right actor is important.”

‘Sitare Zameen Par’ is the Hindi adaptation of the 2018 Spanish film ‘Campeones’, in which both Aamir and Genelia are playing characters in their forties. Aamir may be 60 years old now, but he ignored the age difference and said that today’s technology and the thinking of the audience have neutralized this difference. Directed by R.S. Prasanna, this film is Aamir Khan’s return to the big screen after a long time. The film will release in June 2025.
