Anasuya Sengupta becomes first Indian actress to win the award at Cannes

Anasuya Sengupta has become the first Indian actress to win the award in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival this year for her performance in 'The Shameless.'

The film has been directed by Bulgarian filmmaker Konstantin Bojanov and was screened at the film festival this week acquiring much praise from the attendees.

As the actress received the award, she said, “You don’t have to be queer to fight for equality, you don’t have to be colonised to know that colonising is pathetic — we just need to be very, very decent human beings."

Payal Kapadia's 'All We Imagine As Light' was also in the run but didn't beg any award.

Cannes 2024 began on May 14 and will conclude on May 25.
