Pakistani actress Sana Javed announced her wedding with cricketer Shoaib Malik on Instagram yesterday. He was previously married to Sania Mirza. Breaking her silence over her separation, the former Indian tennis player's family members issued a statement. Sania's sister Anam shared a note on Instagram.
The Mirza family stated, "Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead! At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well-wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy."
Sania's father said in a statement to the media, "It was a ‘khula'. I do not wish to comment beyond this." For the unversed, a khula is an Islamic jurisprudence through which a woman can initiate a divorce from her husband unilaterally.
Sania married Shoaib in 2010 in Hyderabad and lived in Dubai as they had different citizenship. They were blessed with a son named Izhaan Mirza Malik in 2018. Sana is a Pakistani actress who was previously married to singer Umair Jaiswal in 2020.
