Wanted an alien that wouldn't scare children: Rakesh Roshan recalls most challenging part while making Koi Mil Gaya

Koi Mil Gaya was released in August 2003 and became one of the most popular films of the time with its unique concept. The film begins with a story of a young boy Rohit aka Hrithik Roshan, who is mentally impaired, becomes a friend with an alien and tries to protect him after the police learns about (it) landing on earth. Co-starring Preity Zinta, this sci-fi film was a massive success among critics and audience. And now, after 20 years, the film has re-released across 30 cities on August 4. In a recent interview, director Rakesh Roshan opened up about the most challenging part that he faced while making the film.

The director said, "The idea of making Koi Mil Gaya struck me one day when I was observing my granddaughter Suranika watching a cartoon that featured an alien. I was instantly intrigued and asked her out of curiosity if she understood the concept and she explained the story to me. I was surprised that a kid her age not only understood what an alien was but also seemed entertained by the sci-fi concept." Recalling the most challenging part of the film, he explained that it was difficult for him to make an alien that would not scare children, he added, "I was certain that I wanted an alien that the children would not be scared of, rather someone who would be seen as a friendly alien. So, I shared the concept of an alien who was of the same height as the children and someone with very expressive eyes, as Jaadoo primarily communicates through his eyes."

Jadoo fans, for life!
