Tabu reveals her rowdy cop character in 'Kuttey' was written for male actor, says 'it was changed for me'

The highly-anticipated trailer of debutant director Aasmaan Bhardwaj's Kuttey, headlined by Arjun Kapoor, Tabu, Naseeruddin Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma, Kumud Mishra, Radhika Madan and Shardul Bhardwaj, was released this noon and well, it seems promising. Tabu, who has had an extremely successful year with two back-to-back box-office hits, plays an unconventional rowdy cop in Kuttey. At the launch event today, the actress even revealed that her character was actually written for a male actor at first but was later changed for her.

At the film's trailer launch today, Tabu said, "Aasmaan is a different kind of filmmaker and there is no comparison with Vishal Bhardwaj’s films. Of course, thought and aesthetics are similar, but his cinema is different. Actually, this character was written for a male actor, but it was changed for me. It was very challenging and fun at the same time to play this character.”

She also added, “It also felt like home because I was there when Aasmaan was born. I remember Gulzar saab had named him Aasmaan. I also remember seeing him as a kid on the sets of Maqbool, with a wooden camera set. So for me, coming from there, when I read the script, I felt that this was a very different kind of writing. The character is completely different from anything I have played recently.”

Kuttey is produced by Luv Ranjan, Vishal Bhardwaj, Ankur Garg and Rekha Bhardwaj under the banner of Luv Films and Vishal Bhardwaj Films and presented by Gulshan Kumar and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series. The film’s music has been composed by Vishal Bhardwaj with lyrics penned by Gulzar.
