‘If women can show off their sexy bodies why can’t men,’ quips Ram Gopal Varma on Ranveer Singh’s nude photo shoot

Ranveer Singh kicked a hornet’s nest when he posed nude for the Paper magazine recently. While many applauded Ranveer for shedding his clothes as well as his inhibitions there were a few who trolled him and now an FIR has also been registered against the actor. However, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has come out in support of the actor and said that his latest photo shoot is perhaps an attempt to seek gender equality, adding that if "women show off their sexy bodies, why can't men?"

Speaking to a news website, RGV said, “(I) think it’s his way of demanding justice for gender equality. If women can show off their sexy bodies why can’t men? It’s hypocritical that men are judged by a different standard. Men should have as many equal rights as women.”

Earlier this week, two applications were filed with Mumbai Police seeking the registration of an FIR against Ranveer for ‘hurting sentiments of women.’ Today, the Chembur Police registered an FIR in the case by an office-bearer of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) also based in the east Mumbai suburb and a woman lawyer.

The FIR was registered under the Sections 292, 293, and 509 of the Information Technology Act 2022 of the Indian Penal Code against Ranveer for his nude photos posted on social media.
