Did Ranbir Kapoor enter a temple wearing shoes in Brahmastra's trailer? Director Ayan Mukerji addresses misconceptions

Firstly, let's admit the trailer of Brahmastra can be played on loop without getting bored. After years of work on the film which belongs to the genre of Modern Mythology, Ayan Mukerji released a glimpse of his brainchild on June 15. While we simply couldn't stop admiring the piece of beauty, some flagbearers of hate went on to criticise Ranbir for entering a temple wearing shoes. In the trailer, Ranbir's character is introduced through a sequence that takes place inside a Durga Puja pandal. Now, addressing the misconception about the scene, Ayan penned down a note and cleared the air.

The filmmaker wrote, "We had some people in our community, upset because of one shot in our Trailer - Ranbir’s character wearing shoes as he rings a Bell. As the Creator of this film (and a devotee), I wanted to humbly address what happened here. In our movie, Ranbir is not entering a temple, but a Durga Puja Pandal. My own family has been organising a similar kind of Durga Puja Celebration for… 75 years! One, which I have been a part of since my childhood. In my experience, we only take off our shoes, right on the stage where the Goddess is, and not when you enter the Pandal. It is personally important for me to reach out to anyone who may have been upset with this image… because above all, Brahmstra is created as a movie experience which pays respect to, and celebrates - Indian culture, traditions and history. That is at the heart of why I made this movie, so it is very important to me that this feeling, reaches every Indian who is watching Brahmstra!"

Ranbir plays the role of Shiva, an orphan, who discovers his superpowers and ability to attract and emit fire from his palm. Alia Bhatt is Isha. The film revolves around a secret society called the Brahmnsh, who generation after generation have protected many divine ‘Astras’ or weapons that were created in ancient India, and safe-guarded from the eyes of the world.

Brahmastra, which is releasing this year, is the first part of Ayan's trilogy and is titled Shiva. It is also the beginning of India’s first original universe The Astraverse. Produced by Star Studios, Dharma Productions, Prime Focus and Starlight Pictures, Brahmastra will release theatrically on September 9, 2022, in 5 Indian languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
