Kabir Khan talks about releasing Ranveer Singh's 83 on web 'if further restrictions are imposed'

Kabir Khan's sport-drama 83, which stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, has been the talk of the town ever since it was announced. The film released in theatres on December 24 but the box office business suffered a bit due to the surge in COVID-19 cases and its new variant Omicron. Due to the increase in cases, restrictions on theatres were imposed. Delhi Government shut its theatres completely. Now, director Kabir Khan has now revealed that he will release 83 on the OTT platform if further restrictions are imposed. 

During an interview, he said “We don’t know if we will have to shut down tomorrow, or will be afforded another five to six days. If further restrictions are imposed, we will release the film on the web, soon. But, I am keen [that] people take precaution and go to the theatres to watch it.”

The director further added that why he wanted 83 to be released on the big screens.“This film was ready with us 18 months ago. We wanted people to see it on the big screen because that is how it was designed. But, such are the times that we live in. We tried hard to acquire a safe spot for the film, but the day of its release, there was a spike in cases. By day four, Delhi theatres had shut down,” said Kabir.

83 is produced by Reliance Entertainment, Phantom Films, Vibri Entertainment, KA Productions, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Kabir Khan Films. It stars Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Addinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa and R. Badree in important roles.
