Kabir Khan's upcoming sport-drama 83, which stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, has been the talk of the town ever since it was announced. What makes the film even more special is the fact that it stars real-life couple Ranveer and Deepika Padukone together for the very first time after their wedding in November 2018. Recently, director Kabir opened up about the flawless casting and admitted that he would have approached Deepika for the role of Romi Dev even if she wasn't married to Ranveer.
Speaking to a leading daily, Kabir said, “Her casting has nothing to do with Ranveer. Yes, today, as a marketing campaign it’s a thing to talk about. It’s a real-life couple coming together for the first time after marriage. However, I would have gone to Deepika even if she was not married to Ranveer. I have admired her over the years and she is a fantastic actor, with such an amazing presence. Romi Dev’s character does not have a lot of screentime but it’s very significant."

The filmmaker further added, "The energy that Romi brings was much needed. When I met Kapil and Romi a few years back, I realised that he is incomplete without her. And if that is the current mood, I am sure that would have been the case years back. The 1983 journey would have been incomplete without her presence in Kapil Dev’s life.”
83 is produced by Reliance Entertainment, Phantom Films, Vibri Entertainment, KA Productions, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Kabir Khan Films. It stars Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Addinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa and R. Badree in important roles. The film releases tomorrow i.e. December 24.
