Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha's Rowdy Rathore to get a sequel, confirms writer K. V. Vijayendra Prasad

In 2012, Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha teamed up for Prabhudeva's Rowdy Rathore. The action-thriller was declared a blockbuster at the box office and was one of the highest-grossing films of that year. Now, almost 10 years after the film hit the screens, the makers are ready for a sequel. As stated in a leading daily's report, SS Rajamouli's father K. V. Vijayendra Prasad has started working on Rowdy Rathore sequel's script.

Confirming the news, the veteran writer told the daily, "I am currently writing the Rowdy Rathore 2 script. Bhansali saab [Sanjay Leela Bhansali, producer] approached me to write the sequel. I should be able to complete the script soon." He refused to give out any details of the sequel and also maintained that he doesn't know who will be directing it.

However, an industry source told the daily that Rowdy Rathore's sequel will feature Sonakshi as Paro and Akshay as Shiva but it will be a completely different narrative. "Sonakshi Sinha will reprise her role of Paro. While the principal characters of Shiva and Paro are expected to remain in the sequel, the story will not pick up where Rowdy Rathore ended. This will be a completely new narrative. The script will be ready in the next few months, and the movie is expected to go on floors in the end of 2022.," the source shared.

In Rowdy Rathore, Akshay played a double role. He was seen as a petty thief Shiva and ASP Vikram Singh Rathore. It was the remake of the Telugu blockbuster Vikramarkudu (2006) directed by SS Rajamouli and written by K. V. Vijayendra Prasad.
